• This essay is an attempt to explicate in detail the ninth story in James Joyce's Dubliners, "Counterparts." The main focus is placed on the analysis of the psychological and pathological intricacies of the hero of the story, Farrington, while the viewpoint of "epiphany" as Joyce calls it is introduced to help to clarify the theme of the story.
