The rocks distributed in the so-called Chichibu terrain in the south-central part of Ehime Prefecture and the northwestern part of Kochi Prefecture were divided into three provinces of northern, central and southern. The former is limited by the Mikabu tectonic line and the latter by the Butsuzo tectonic line. The three provinces are separated from one another by major tectonic lines -- the Otaru-Suita tectonic line and the Kanbaradani-Iwagai tectonic line from the north--all trending east-west parallel with the Mikabu and Butsuzo tectonic lines. In the three provinces there were distinguished 16 stratigraphic units ranging from upper Carboniferous to the lower Cretaceous. Paleontologically, four fusulinids zones were recognized namely, the Triticites zone (Kawvian or Uralian), Pseudoschwagerina zone (Wolfcampian or Sakmarian) , Pseudofusulina zone (Leonardian), and the Neoschwagerina zone (Bamian) in upward sequence. Although the Triassic is missing in the studied area, rocks referable to Jurassic (Lower Kimmeridgian to upper Argovian), and lower Cretaceous (Kochian, Aritan and Miyakoan) are developed and distributed. Movements are recognized during post-Carboniferous-pre-Permian, between middle and late Permian time, post-Permian to pre-Jurassic, and post-Jurassic to pre-Cretaceous in the area, and these are in good agreement with the general tectonic movements in Shikoku. A total of 32 species of the Fusulinidae distributed among 12 genera are described in the present work. Among them one species and three subspecies distributed among three genera are described as new to science.
