Ostracoda from the East China Sea

This paper gives a list, which shows the occurrence of 62 ostracode species distributed among 43 genera, and full descriptions of new and imperfectly known taxa as a result of systematic work on 4595 ostracode specimens which were found in 25 bottom sediment samples taken from the shelf area of the East China Sea : 13 species and two genera are described as new and five species as indefinite forms, and Nipponocythere obesa is reexamined. In regard to the species, the forms hitherto reported from the upper Cenozoic of Taiwan dominate over others in the area studied. In addition to the two new genera, 10 genera have been recorded for the first time from the Japonic Realm. These new findings, together with Uroleberis foveolata and Neonesidea villosa which were found in the outer part of the shelf area, seem to show the presence of faunal continuity between, at least, the southern border of the Japonic and such southward realms as the Austral-Tasman, Nova Zealand, and Indo-Pacific Realms.
