In melt-spurn ribbons of Y-Fe-B system alloys prepared by the single roller rapid quenching method, the effects of composition (substitution with Tb or Dy for Y, with Co for Fe, and with Si for B), substrate surface velocity and subsequent annealing on the magnetic properties were studied, and their bonded magnets were made of the optimum-quenched ribbons. The maximum magnetic energy product of the Y-Fe-B system ribbon of 35.6 kj/m^3 were obtained with the Y_<20>Fe_<72>B_8 alloy ribbon prepared at the substrate surface velocity of 11.8 m/s. In this experiment, the best magnetic energy product of 52.3 kj/m^3 was obtained with the Y_<19>Tb_1Fe_<72>B_8 alloy ribbon. The X-ray diffraction patterns of samples of the highest coercivity show a mixture of an amorphous and a fine crystalline phase. The best magnetic properties of these bonded magnets of the Y_<19>Tb_1Fe_<72>B_8 alloy were B_r=0.452 T, H_<CB>=268.0 kA/m, (BH)_<max>=35.7 kJ/m^3, while the maxium magnetic energy product of the bonded magnet of the Y_<20>Fe_<72>B_8 alloy were obtained 26.5 kJ/m^3. The temperature coefficients (from 25 to 125℃) of B_r and H_<CB> for the bonded magnet of the Y_<19>Tb_1Fe_<72>B_8 alloy were α(B_r)=-0.185 %/℃, and α(H_<CB>=-0.102 %/℃, and those of the Y_<20>Fe_<72>B_8 alloy were α(B_r)=-0.110 %/℃, and α(H_<CB>=-0.050 %/℃, From these results, it is known that the values of the temperature coefficients of Y-Fe-B bonded magnets were superior to those of R-Fe-B(R:Nd, Pr) bonded magnets.
