The present work was undertaken to clarify the relation between the chemical structures and the insecticidal, fungicidal and herbicidal activities with a view to creating effective but low-toxic pesticides. α-Naphthyl alkylethers and acetophenones substituted in their aromatic rings with nitro, bromo, chloro, nitrile, alkoxy or methyl gronps were synthesized, and their pesticidal activities were tested. A certain number of α-naphthyl alkylethers were effective against rice bacterial leaf blight, rice sheath blight and rice blast disease, but inferior to the commercial pesticides. In herbicidal effect 4-nitro, 4-nitrile and 7-methoxy derivatives of α-naphthyl alkylethers, 4-methoxyacetophenone and 3,4-dichloroacetophenone are expected. The second screening tests of them are not yet carried ont.
