In our previous report, we made clear the process of growing of sugar beet plants in different climatic environments. This report now indicates the process of root development found in the same environments. These experiments were carried out in the same regions and under the same conditions of culture that had been chosen for the previous experiments. It is because an atmospheric temperature between 10.14℃ and 15.29℃ (the yearly mean in 1961) under the same condition of culture is regarded best for the plants. The results of the experiments can be summarized as follows : (1) More amount of root yield and sugar content was obtained from the sugar beets grown in the cooler region than those in the warmer region; however, Marc content of roots was less in the cooler region. (2) The desirable balance between the gorwth of the airial part and that of the underground part of the beet plants was observed in the cooler region, as compared with the same relationship found in the warmer region. (3) The variation of the correlation value between the degrees of T/R ratio and of Ref-Brix, makes a different form of process according to the plants' suitability for climatic conditions. (4) A temperature of more than 25℃ acts to decrease the weight of top and the degree of Brix in roots. The rate of the increase of the weight of top and root is largest at a temperature between 20° and 23℃. Moreover, this degree of temperature indicates a proper degree for the plants' adaptation to their environment at the changing period of the relativity among these characters. The rate of the increase of the Brix was stabilized at a temperature of less than 15℃.
