Many eguipment suitable for the zone melting of organic compounds have been described. But, most of these zone-melting apparatus are not suitable for theoretical investigation. The authors designed a new type automatic zone-melting apparatus of organic compounds and tested the efficiency of this eguipment. Many organic substances melt at a relatively low temperature and are not contaminated by contact with glass. So, the container was made of glass. As zone melting of organic compounds at temperatures over 350℃ need not be examined, heaters were made of stainless steel. The movement of the molten zone along the specimen was accomplished by keeping the heater fixed and moving the specimen. Zone length is 30mm, heaters diameter is 9mm, zone speed lie in the range 0.73cm to 2.94cm/h. Driving and rewind mechanisms for zone melting apparatus were operated by motors. A measure of the efficiency of the automatic zone melting apparatus of organic compaunds was employed for the separation of mixtures of Nitrophenol isomers and Naphthalene-β-Naphthol.
