(Pb, Sn)Mo_6S_8 Monofilamentary Wires Produced by HIP Technique(Low-T_c Superconducting Materials Research)

The monofilamentary (Pb, Sn)Mo_6S_8 wires with Nb-stainless steel as sheath material have been fabricated by the powder metallurgical method. The use of pure(deoxidized) Pb as a starting powder is useful for increasing the packing density of the composite, and reducing the residual oxide content in PbMo_6S_8 compound. The influence of HIP(Hot Isostatic Pressing) treatment and Sn addition on the critical current densities J_c was investigated. We found that the J_c values were enhanced by HIP treatment and Sn addition. The best J_c values for the (Pb, Sn)Mo_6S_8 wires with HIP treatment were 5.4×10^3 A/cm^2 at 27 T and 2.5×10^3 A/cm^2 at 30.1 T and 4.2 K.
