Absorption and reflection spectra at 300 K and photoconduction spectra at 300 K, 77 K and 4.2 K in their respective energy ranges were observed for some natural pyrite crystals. The absorption spectra for these pyrite crystals seem to be classified according to the ore deposit. The absorption edge appears at the energy of 0.8 to 0.9 eV. The photoconduction shows the peak of 0.9 to 1.0 eV at 300 K and those of 0.9 to 1.0 eV and 1.3 to 1.4 eV at 77 K. Three kinds of recombination centers are expected to exist from the analysis of the exponential curve of the photoconduction decay. Brief considerations are also given to applications of the semiconducting properties of the pyrite crystals to the flotation and a semiconductor device.
