Glass forming ability in Fe-Si-B and Fe-B-C alloys was experimentally investigated. The glass formability was evaluated in terms of maximum thickness of ribbons obtainable in amorphous state. It was found that the compositional range for glass formation coincides roughly with eutectic compositions, and the optimum compositions for Fe-Si-B alloys can be expressed as Fe_<100-a-x> B_<a-x> Si_<2x> (at.%), where a is around 84. Crystallization temperature is another factor for the formability and explains the superior formability of Fe-Si-B alloys compared with Fe-B-C alloys.
