By means of microscopic observation, X-ray diffraction examination and differential thermal analysis, the Ti-Bi alloys of less than 65% of bismuth were studied in the temperature range below 1350℃. The β-transus of titanium is lowered by addition of bismuth and a eutectoid reaction β〓α+Ti_3Bi occurs at Bi : 29% and temperature : 725℃+10℃. An intermediate phase Ti_3Bi exists at around 60% of bismuth in this system, which is formed by the peritectic reaction liquid+β〓Ti_3Bi at 1340℃±20℃. Ti_3Bi was found to be tetragonal crystals with the lattice constants of a=6.020A, c=8.204A and c/a = 1.375. The solubility of bismuth in α-and β-titanium is 1.5% and 33% at the maximum, respectively. (ASM-SLA Classification : M24b ; Ti, Bi)
