In the measurement of the thickness of metal plates by ultrasonic harmonic method, it is usually considered that standing waves will be set up within a metal plate to be tested. In general, however, the resonance should be determined depending on the condition of the acoustic coupling between the quartz crystal and the metal plate. In this paper, the writer has given a theoretical demonstration on the coupling action due to an oil film between two plates, referring to his experiments.
