For measuring the mean size of microscopic dusts (carborundum, red bloodcorpurscle etc.), the diffraction pattern by these dusts was utilized. In order to ascertain the dependence of the diffraction pattern and the distributed particles, the diffraction pattern by circular punched pieces of paper was utilized and it was ascertained that the diameter of the diffraction ring was inversely proportional to the mean size of the punched pieces. Utilizing these results, an apparatus convenient to measure the red bloodcorpuscles has been designed. In conclusion, the writer expresses his hearty thanks Dr. J. Okubo former director of our Reseach Institute under whose supervision this experiment was carried out and to the director T. Okamura for valuable suggestions in writing this paper.
