The author studied the relation between the size of gold particle and the time of dissolution in cyanide solution in the case where the rate of dissolution is constant. He obtained the following general formula : t_1=ρ/υn_1, where t_1 denotes the time required for complete dissolution of gold particle in hrs, ρ the specific gravity of gold, υ the rate of dissolution of gold in grams per cm^2 per hr and n_1 the length of radius of the maximum sphere enclosed in the particle which is supposed to be of ovaloidal shape. In the previous research the author obtained υ=1.8mg/cm^2/hr, and the time t_1 required for complete dissolution is calculated for the diameter ranging between (0μ and 100μ) by the above formula. He compared these data with the agitation time in Dorr agitators in many cyanide plants, and found that the time of dissolution calculated nearly coincides with the agitation time. This formula may also be employed for the calculation of the time of dissolution of a solid into liquid where the rate of dissolution is constant.
