In order to clarify the mechanism of crack initiation caused of corrosion fatigue and improve the corrosion fatigue life of high strength steel, the influence of stress factors on the behavior of crack initiation of corrosion fatigue was examined in neutral solution by the electrochemical methods. Under various stress conditions, the corrosion fatigue examination was performed and the change of fatigue life was examined. Simultaneously, electrochemical parameters (corrosion potential, solution potential, polarization resistance and the interface impedance response) were measured with the numbers of stress repetition progress. Surface and fracture face of pieces were observed by optical microscopy and SEM after the test. According to the stress conditions, activity of the anode reactions changed and corrosion rates could be also changed. Electrochemical parameters gave the information about the crack initiation process. Relationships between stress condition and crack formation could be clarified.
