Several speech researchers have conducted experiments aimed specifically at the processes involved in aural and written word recognition. The rate of the recognition process, when words are presented in context, is affected by the means in which the lexical properties interact with various sources of information such as linguistics rules, discourse, and knowledge of the world (Grosjean & Gee, 1987, p.136). As analysis of the differentiation in the accuracy and rate of aural word recognition between the initial and final word fragments shall be examined along with the principal variables that affect the process. In an attempt to demonstrate that initial word fragments are more effective cues in aural recongnition than the final word fragments, the research of several scholars shall be examined.
