If the Sapir-Whorf theory is correct, and a language shapes the way we think, and determines what we think about, the way of thinking should differ one from another depending on what language one speaks. There have been studies of bilingualism, however not many studies have focused on speakers' cognitive states, and what is happening in their minds. Is a bilingual speaker a person with two heads, thinking things in two different ways? Or is it the case that the person keeps a manner of his or her first language no matter how fluent one becomes in a second language? Or is it the case that the bilingual speaker has totally different way of thinking, which is not affected by either a first or second language? The present research aims to find out the cognitive states of bilingual speakers.
