Alien Ginsberg' s posthumously published Death & Fame continues to explore political and social themes that the poet has been addressing for the past fifty years. Yet, the volume's strongest poems are those that concern his aging and imminent death. Ginsberg manages to avoid didacticism and sentimentality with his poetic voice, characterized by a strong sense of self, humor and his Buddhist beliefs. Through close readings of select poems in Death & Fame this paper will demonstrate that Alien Ginsberg's positive mental attitude helps him transcend his physical maladies and achieve personal serenity.
