The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of "Self-Portrait Method (SPM)" is a clinical method to evoke client's images of self in awareness. SPM, which was developed from the clinical experience of the author, can be applied to clients over 6 year old. It enables clinicians to tap into the subconscious in order to deepen the client's consciousness. This technique consists of the following steps that are carried out in the order as described below. First, client draws him or herself on a piece of white paper with crayons. Second, he or she draws a thing, an event or a person which he or she worries about. Third, he or she draws the background of the picture which represents his or her psychological environment. Fourth, he or she is asked to imagine and draw something that hides underneath his or her self-portrait as therapist facilitates this process with probings such as "what is it that is hiding?" and "Please draw this thing that his hiding underneath you." In the paper, six examples of the self-drawing will be presented in order to illustrate the clinical utility of this method.
