The nasal portion of a Thylacoleo carnifex skull housed in the National Museum of Victoria is found to be part of the holotype, the imperfect cranium of which (housed in the British Museum) was used by Owen to establish the species and genus. The chronology of the holotype is brought up to date, and comment made on the distribution of the genus.
