• The molluscan thanatocoenoses of Usuki Bay, East Kyushu, do not appear to be changed essentially in composition from the original biocoenoses and thus afford a community-ecological analysis. The groups of the thanatocoenose associations, clustered on the basis of similarity between samples, were analysed in relation to substrate, feeding and ecomorphic types. Four ecological associations are recognized.
