This is an alphabetically arranged check list of figured specimens of Japanese Tertiary marine Mollusca, exclusive of Amphineura. The list is divided into four sections : Pelecypoda, comprising 723 species ; Scaphopoda, 11 species ; Gastropoda, 743 species ; and Cephalopoda, 5 species, Mollusca described from the Kokumoto and Naganuma formations of the Boso and Miura peninsulas, flanking Tokyo Bay, are included, because, contrary to other opinions, the writers believe that these formations and their correlatives are of Pliocene and not of Pleistocene age. All entries in the check list are arranged in alphabetic order, with the original author's statement as to genus, species, author, year, bibliographic reference, assigned formation and age, locality, kind of type, repository [when stated], and catalogue number [when given]. All corrections and interpretations are placed in brackets. All stated localities and their latitude and longitude were checked against maps. The format used by A. Myra Keen and H. Bentson [1944, California Tertiary Marine Mollusca] is followed, with the addition of latitude and longitude for each entry where possible, and of a glossary of Japanese Tertiary formations.
