• This report studies the process of self-supporting new farmer settled in the town of Obira of Hokkaido, which is intended to promote the town by training people to become farmers and getting them to shoulder the burden on local agriculture in the future. The actions taken by the town of Obira to invite and accept prospective farmers were well in advance of those in other areas. The farmer taken in this paper is the earliest case in the town of Obira, so he and his wife worked hard, and the persons concerned supported them kindly. One of remarkable matters from their experiences in the first year is that the costs for preparation of some inputs were very cheep through having large friendly relations. As a result, it was suggested that for realizing stable agricultural management, to participate actively in the agricultural society is indispensable.
