The author has reported two articles on a new paper partition chromatographic method which effectively separates some of the rare earth elements. The chromatographic system consists of a hydrophobic solution with a high oxine concentration as the fixed phase and a hydrophilic solution with a low oxine concentration as the mobile phase. To improve the separability of the method, some modifications were made in the developing process. According to the modified process, the separation of gadolinium and terbium, which are neighbouring elements in the order of atomic number, was attained keeping some vacant space between their chromatographic bands and the number of the components separable in one development was increased to six species.
