Multipoint surface discharge on a polyethylene surface supplied cathode plasma to a pulsed electron beam source operated by a low-power (P_M = 10.9 J) Marx generator at a low maximum voltage of 170kV. The intensity of the surface discharge on the actie cathode, that is, the operating characteristics of the electron beam diode, was controlled by an external resistor. A 121 A pulsed electron beam with a peak energy of 93keV and a pulse width of about 1 μs was generated, and the stability of the diode operation was very good. A high-output electron beam power P_B of 5.02J (46% of P_M) and a high electron beam diode input power P_D of 9.74 J (89% of P_M) were achieved. To develop a higher-efficiency electron beam source, the energy flow from the energy stored in the Marx generator to the output electron beam power in the geometry of the electron beam injection into a gas cell was clarified.
