About 20 years ago, I argued literally on Frege's text that his so-called "the context principle" in Grundlagen is not the leading principle of his axiomatic system of logic written in symbolic language, but a explaining principle of his "propaedeutic" to introduce a new symbol of the system. He thought the propaedeutic wtitten in natural language prior to the system is indispesable to the construction of the system, without any hope of recostruction of natural language using symbolic language as in Carnap or Kaplan. Those days, people misundestood that the context principle required the contextual definition in the symbolic system as in Russell and wondered why Frege did not make the contextual definition in his symbolic language in Grundgesetze. My thesis on Frege was widely received, but lately the so-called noe-Fregean approach to the logic introduced in Japan obscured the role of the context principle, making the contextual definition in their revised system of Frege's logic. Now I examine Frege's text of Grudgesetze again, focusing on the fifth axiom of the system, pointing out errors in Japanese translation of Grundgesetze, and show the peculiar difficulty to Frege's introduction of the e-function in the symbolic system. It is quite easy to see that neo-Fregean revised and contextual introduction of the e-function can not avoid the same difficulty and I am sorry to say that only the philosophical insensibility to the difficulty can not capture the clear meaning of this essay.
