CFRP composite laminates have wide application in automobiles, aerospace vehicles and ships for light-weight structures. The shape of normal structure is curved shell with various curvature radius. When these structures are subjected to external force, the response and behavior of curved shells are different from those of flat-plate. The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of curvature on the penetration characteristics and the discussion on stacking sequences and thickness of shells. First of all, when the specimen is subjected to transverse impact by a steel ball, the velocity of the steel ball was measured both before and after impact by determining the time for it to pass two ballistic-screen sensors located a known distance apart. And then, the critical penetration energy increased as the curvature increased. The critical penetration energy of [0_2/90_2]_s and [0_3/90_3]_s was higher than [0/90_2/0]_s and [0_2/90_2/0]_s.
