• The present paper deals with the linguistic geography of the dialects that are now spoken by the people who live in the area around lake Biwa. The main results of this investigation were shown in the 20 accompanying maps where some definite kinds of dialects were given. From the analysis of the results 11 types in tendency of dialect-distribution could be pointed out. Looking at such variety types, the author would like to say that the existence of a Lake Biwa may have a very close relation to the estimation of pattern of dialect-distribution, and in future it will give a very important part to that.
