As the last session of the Convention, Plenary Symposium (2) intends to offer wider perspectives on the Convention theme, Integrated English Education : From Primary through Tertiary, which has been discussed from the Japanese viewpoints during the Convention. Dr. Lin presents Singapore's primary-secondary school integrated curriculum in English teaching. Professor Gunashekar introduces India's innovative secondary School English course by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Professor Wang talks about China's unified national syllabus for EFL in primary and secondary schools. These unifying new schemes emphasize the shift from the native speaker-oriented standards of correctness, English language in use in contexts and self-expression, learners' cultural identities, and the importance of teacher training and material development. What China, India, Korea, and Singapore have done and what these countries plan to do will give us stimulation and inspirations in our discussion on the pros and cons of integration of English teaching from primary to tertiary levels and how to implement the scheme effectively.
