A new species of the genus Lasioptera is described together with information about its bionomics. This gall midge is distinguishable from its relatives by differences in the larval and pupal papillae and by the unique habit as a successor. The larvae inhabit empty galls of other gall-making cecidomyiids, feeding on mycelia of a fungus growing in the galls, and drop to the soil for pupation.
