Description of a New Gall Midge (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) Causing Galls on Lithocarpus edulis (Fagaceae) in Japan

• A new genus, Tokiwadiplosis, is created for a new gall midge species which causes galls on young stems and leaves of Lithocarpus edulis in Japan. The genus is distinguishable from its relatives by characteristics of the male genitalia, female antennae and ovipositor. Adult and immature stages of the gall midge are described under the name T. matecola. The species is essentially univoltine. Adults emerge in early summer to autumn from galls that fell to the ground the preceding year. One species of eulophid parasitoid is associated with the gall midge.
