Phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary history of host associations in a braconid subfamily Meteorinae (Meteorus HALIDAY+Zele CURTIS) are analyzed. Meteorus consists of several monophyletic species-groups, but it seems to be paraphyletic. The hypothesis that Zele and the ictericus, rubens and pulchricornis groups of Meteorus form a monophyletic group is supported by two structural synapomorphies : (1) the tarsal claw with a submedial lobe ; and (2) the ocelli large. It is most likely that a host shift from Coleoptera to Lepidoptera has taken place in its own common ancestor. Several adaptive features to parasitism of exposed "macrolepidoptera" in the Meteorinae are also discussed.
