The caddisfly, Perissoneura paradoxa, occurs in small and sporadic populations and is polymorphic in color of its wing spots. Twenty-four populations in Kanazawa and one in Tatsunokuchi, Ishikawa Prefecture, were compared in respect to the male wing spot type frequency. Males were either type G (spots brownish gray), type W (white) or type Y (yellow), but type N (no spot) males known from other regions were not found. Types W and Y could be subdivided into a series of 6 grades ranging from pure white type W to deep orange yellow type Y. Frequencies of the male wing spot types varied markedly among the populations and clinal trends in the composition of male wing spot types were seen in Kanazawa. Females which had been though to be dimorphic were found to be tetramorphic. There were notable phenotypic differences between the specimens from Kanazawa and Tatsunokuchi.
