The caddisfly, Perissoneura paradoxa MCLACHLAN, exhibits a polymorphism in the color of its wing spots. Three populations (Yuwaku, Ohiraso and Jike in Ishikawa Prefecture) differed in the frequency of the wing spot types. A mark-recapture procedure was applied to the Yuwaku and Ohiraso populations to estimate adult population parameters such as total number resident and daily survival rate. The adult male caddisfly's life span was very short, ranging from 1.96 to 2.17 days and males did not disperse readily. The caddisfly populations were distributed very sporadically, from place to place. The differences in the frequency of the wing spot types among the local populations were attributed to the short life span, low dispersal power and patchy distribution of the caddisfly.
