In this paper, research on DC breaking based on vacuum switch was carried out by experimental investigation and theoretical analysis. The method of "artificial current zero" was used in the DC breaking research. The influence of different commutation inductances, different charged voltage (commutation capacitance) and different introduced moment of reverse current on vacuum arc DC breaking process will be analyzed by measuring arc current and observing arc appearance. In addition, the influence of axial magnetic field (AMF) lagged from arc current on breaking performance of vacuum switches will also be analyzed, experimental investigation and theoretical analysis showed that phase difference of between AMF and arc current can be the important problem in DC breaking based on vacuum switch.
