Upregulation of RHAMM mRNA Expression by Interleukin 1β and Tumor Necrosis Factor α in Cultured Rabbit Articular Chondrocytes

We investigated the effects of interleukin-1β(IL-1β)and tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)on receptor for hyaluronic acid-mediated motility(RHAMM)mRNA expression in polylayer culture of rabbit articular chondrocytes using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). The RHAMM mRNA expression was significantly increased at the concentration of 1 ng / mL and 10 ng / mL of IL-1β and 10 ng / mL of TNF-α. These results suggest that RHAMM may increase in articular chondrocyte under the conditions of inflammatory joint diseases, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
