Very intense, stimulated resonance Raman scattering (SRRS) was observed in an ethanol solution of cyanine dye, 3,3'-diethyl-6,7,6',7'-dibenzothiadicarbocyanine bromide (DDTCB) upon excitation by a Q-switched ruby laser. The number of SRRS lines was fifteen, the most intense SRRS line being observed at 1252 cm^<-1>. A comparison of DDTCB with some other cyanine dyes for which SRRS has already been reported under the same experimental conditions revealed DDTCB to be first in both the number of lines and intensities of the SRRS. In addition, spontaneous Raman scattering (SpRS) was measured for these dyes under varied excitation wavelengths (488.0, 514.5 and 632.8 nm) in order to investigate the resonance Raman effect. DDTCB showed stronger relative intensities and a greater resonance Raman effect than the other cyanine dyes.
