The effect of a quasi-gaussian pulse on the line-shape parameter analysis is treated in terms of the skewness γ_1 and excess γ_2, measures of off-gaussian shape, by using the resonant pulse propagation method in a linear laser amplifier. Using the derived formulas of the incremental intensity gain γ_<Iq>, the increments of pulse duration squared ∂τ_q^^'^2/∂z and of pulse delay time ∂T_q^^'/∂z, per unit plasma length for a quasi-gaussian pulse, and the experimentally measured values of these, the gain parameter G, the Lorentzian linewidth △v_L and the Doppler linewidth △v_D of the laser amplifier are conveniently corrected by subtracting the effects of a quasi-gaussian pulse with the obtained γ_1 and γ_2. This is also applied to a xenon 3.5 μm laser transition, discussing the influence of γ_1 and γ_2 on the accuracy of line-shape parameters.
