The sedimentation constants of tobacco mosaic virus and desoxyribonucleic acid increase with the increase in the angular velocity of the ultracentrifuge, especially in concentrated solutions. This effect is theoretically treated for very dilute solutions taking account of the orientation effect of rod-like molecules under a strong centrifugal force. The effect is not very great in dilute solutions. Calculations are carried out for rod-like pearl necklace models and ellipsoidal particles.
