Two-Dimensional Patterson Synthesis of Al-Mn Quasicrystal by Optical Method

The Patterson functions of Al-Mn quasicrystal are derived by optical transformation. The τ^3 scaling is found in the Patterson map projected along a 2-fold symmetry axis. Comparison with golden rhombohedra constructing a three-dimensional Penrose tiling leads to the value 4.66±0.10 Å for the edge length of the rhombohedra. Several atomic structure models are discussed in comparison with the results.
