Low Frequency Vibrational Modes in Sintered Small Metal Particles Studied by Missbauer Spectroscopy

Sintered small particles of metals (pure Au and Cu-Au and Ag-Au alloys) were studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy. Systematic increase in line width with decreasing average density of the sinter was observed for the sinters of particles about 50 nm in diameter (Au and Cu-Au); this was attributed to the low frequency vibrational modes in the sinters by a model based on a classical theory of Mossbauer effect.
