In experiments on the ac Josephson effect at high frequencies, the current bias method has the shortcoming of insufficient bias setting. We have here fabricated a voltage bias source, containing a current converter circuit, which has overcome this shortcoming. We attained with this voltage bias method a steady dc bias at optional voltage values andstable voltage scans with a high current sensitivity of 10 mV/μA, and have shown experimentally that by using this method, the dc bias of a Josephson mixer can be set at an optimum position independent of any conductance variation, including negative dynamic resistance.
