The magnetic and structural properties of (111)Pt/Co and Pt/Co/Ag superlattices were studied, The samples were grown at 373 K on Ag buffer layers preformed on 7×7-(111)Si substrates by molecular-beam epitaxy. The superlattices with Co layer thickness (t) smaller than 1.5 nm exhibited perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The dependence of the coercivity (H_c) of the Pt/Co superlattices on t is presented in detail. The H_c exhibited a t^<-5/2> dependence that was previously reported not to be demonstrated in an epitaxial Pt/Co/Pt wedge-shaped sandwich structure.
