A preliminary model experiment of a slow positron accumulator essentially based on the principle of the spiral orbit spectrometer (SOS) was carried out using an electron beam of with energies between 200 and 50 eV. Electrons were captured well into the equilibrium orbit of the accumulator for about 30 μs at 200 eV. The lifetime, revealed to be limited simply by collisions with residual gasses and a much longer storage time, would be expected under a better vacuum condition.
