Investigations were made regarding the hot-pressed ceramics of a solid solution in a ternary system Sr(La_<1/2>Nb_<1/2>)O_3-PbZrO_3-PbTiO_3. Optical and electrooptical properties were studied for various compositions in the vicinity of the morphotropic phase boundary between the tetragonal and the rhombohedral phases. Dielectric and piezoelectric measurements together with an X-ray analysis were also carried out over a wide range of compositions; also, the phase diagram was determined. The overall characteristics were found to resemble those of PLZT.
