The characteristics of a pulsed dye amplifier of a cw dye laser beam pumped by a copper vapor laser were investigated. The results show that the system is an efficient tunable source for laser spectroscopy with high average power, good spectral purity and excellent frequency tunability. Using Rh6G, RhB and DCM, the two-stage amplifier covered the spectral range of 575-670 nm with a second-stage conversion efficiency greater than 7%.
