The radial dependence of line intensities in an impulsive Ne glow discharge was investigated with particular attention being paid to the initial temporal changes of emissive line intensities. Two kinds of discharge tube, a cylindrical hollow cathode (C.H.C.) tube and a plane disk cathode (P.D.C.) tube, were used. The empirical formulae for the radial dependence of the temporal line intensities before reaching the stationary state are presented, with the experimental confirmation that the well-known simple Bessel function type formula is obtained in the C.H.C. at low pressure in the stationary state.
