A random-dot model which can contain signal information is presented. A two-dimensional nonstationary Poisson process was applied to the conventional random-dot model in order to construct the new model. The exact forms of the average transmittance and the transmittance autocorrelation function were obtained. An application of the new model to the evaluation of the detectability of radioisotope images is demonstrated by showing numerical calculations. The model proposed in this paper can be applied to image noise analysis, such as signal-to-noise prediction of photographic images and radioisotope images in gamma-ray imaging systems.
