Numerical analysis of the attenuation of magnetostatic wave envelope (MSWE) solitons has been performed to obtain a good insight into the decay properties of MSWE solitons. The numerical calculations indicate that the amplitude of MSWE wave-packets decays at the rate of exp (-αηt) in yttrium iron garnet films, where α is an attenuation factor and η is a damping coefficient. The value of α is found to be dependent on the ratios of dispersion to dissipation and nonlinearity to dissipation and to vary in the range of l ≤ α ≤ 2. The full-width at half maximum of MSWE solitons broadens due to loss and the broadening rate is as sensitive to loss as the amplitude decay rate. The decay characteristics of MSWE solitons presented here provide us with useful information on how to choose experimental parameters for the formation of MSWE solitons.
