C_<70> single crystals were synthesized under various conditions. Their morphologies were observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and their structures were examined using an X-ray diffraction technique. The conflicting results of X-ray diffraction experiments on single crystals and powdered ones led us to conclude that abab・・・stacking was stable at high temperatures while abcabc・・・stacking was stable at low temperatures. Based on this conclusion, we have selectively synthesized hcp and fcc morphology crystals. This paper will discuss the stable phases of solid C_<70>.
